February Meeting
The show –Thursday 16 th . May 2019 Only 3 meetings to go! Registration of quilts or other items for the show – a form is attached. Please be accurate with your measurements – inches NOT centimetres – and note the largest size we can hang. See Chris or Barbara with any queries. We hope to have a stunning display of row quilts, don’t forget to put them on the form and make a note it’s a row quilt. If you made a hanging with Gail Lawther make sure you include her name in your notes so we can hang them all together. You can also enter smaller items e.g. cushions, mats, runners. The show is your chance to showcase your work so we would love everyone try to find something to show. Forms should be returned this month Members of the show committee are busy with preparations and will be asking for help and donations during the coming meetings. Our charities this show are the Ark Cancer Centre in Basingstoke and the British Lung Foundation, so please do all you can to help make the show as successful as ever. Thank you to everyone who made friendship star blocks for the show raffle quilt. Agna is busy putting them together, they will look stunning. Tombola – would like some larger prizes, e.g. table runners, small quilts, bags and soft toys to draw the crowds. As usual we had a great Christmas meeting, food, fun and friends – what more could you ask! We all enjoyed opening our secret santas and will look forward to using them. Sue finished the jigsaw and posted a picture on Facebook – well done. Now we start work in earnest preparing for our show in May, it may seem a long way away but there are only 4 meetings before the big day! The show –Thursday 16 th . May 2019 Many of you took fabric to make friendship star blocks for the show raffle quilt. We had a good display of blocks last month. If you have made one (or more!) please bring them along to the meeting. Agna has started putting together the border – there was a picture on Facebook. Loddon Quilters December 2018 Newsletter Meeting Thursday 20th. December It’s Christmas! Christmas meeting This is our Christmas celebration. When you arrive please put your secret Santa (a covered notebook - wrapped,) into Santa’s bag; they will be given out later in the afternoon. We will open our secret Santas for everyone to see the amazing ideas members have – it doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.
The raffle – everyone will be given a free raffle ticket during the meeting but we do not need raffle prizes this year, we will provide them. Finally – and perhaps most importantly – a small plate of Christmas food would be much appreciated. There will be no charge for refreshments this month. Lunch will be at 12.30, so no one need bring a separate lunch, we are sure there will be plenty left for those who come later – the tables are usually groaning! Don't worry if you can't bring/forget any of the above, it’s you we want to see at our Christmas meeting, so be sure to come along and we can help you out. We will have a few fun (we hope) activities for you to join in with – if you want to…… We shall round off our day with a Christmas Show and Tell, anything you have made on a Christmas theme. Chequered Dresden Plate Last month Dot introduced the chequered Dresden plate, she will demonstrate assembling it this month. It looks fun and hopefully lots of you will try it. To prepare you need to sew together 4 x 2½” strips. If you are using 20 different strips each strip needs to be about 13” long. You will need 5 sets of 4 strips to make the plate. Bring your joined strips along and you can use our rulers to cut your pieces of the plate. Dot will show you how to finish the plate NHQ quilt show Saturday 3rd. November 10 -4, Sunday 4th. Another year begins !!
Newsletter Thursday 20th. September Our times are now 11 a.m. – 3.30p.m. We do appreciate your enthusiasm, thank you for waiting until 11a.m. to come into the hall. We have noticed that some members need to leave as soon as we have had show and tell – this is fine, but don’t feel you have to leave then, we have the hall until 3.45p.m. so if you pack up at 3.30p.m. we still have time to make sure all is cleared away. (Don’t forget your name or initials) This month we hold our AGM, it’s an opportunity to look back at the year and forward to next year. We like to keep it informal and not too long! Dot will be introducing the chequered Dresden plate, which she will demonstrate in October. This month she will tell you what you need and how to prepare if you want to join in a workshop next month. Scrappy Box – please remember to check that there are no pins or needles in fabric you add to the scrappy box. Help yourself to any useful pieces and make a small donation. On Saturday 6th. October Sherfield village hall has an arts and crafts day and we have been offered a table free of charge. This seems a good opportunity to show the community what we do and advertise our forthcoming show. We shall be looking for some volunteers to man the stall for an hour at a time, can you spare an hour? Subscription for 2018/19 – will remain at £20 for the year. We shall be welcoming some prospective members to our meeting this month, we know you will make them welcome.
Jan, our lovely caretaker has retired. We were pleased to thank her with a gift to buy something for her new home and a quilt (thanks to Anne who happened to be finishing a quilt at the meeting!).
Gail Lawther workshop - This proved to be a great success and we had a great display of finished wall hangings for show and tell. Bring any we haven’t seen along to the meeting. There was so much enthusiasm for another workshop that we have contacted Gail to see if we can arrange a workshop towards the end of next year. Watch this space!

Newsletter Meeting Thursday 21 st .June 2018 In case you missed it our new times are 11 a.m. – 3.30pm. – which worked well last month. Please do not arrive before 11 as the committee have to set up before you arrive. We had our first show committee meeting last month so we are on the road to our next show. Show date – Thursday 16 th . May 2019 Make a note in your diaries and on your calendars! Jan the caretaker is retiring at the end of July. We are sure you all appreciate the great work she does in Sherfield Hall. We are so lucky to have a caretaker who, amongst other things, puts out the tables and chairs and puts them away again at the end of our meeting. There will be a card to sign at our meeting and a pot for donations. We will have a presentation at our July meeting. Row Quilt We have done our 6 rows, now we only have to put the rows together and add sashing and/or borders to complete the quilt. Bring along any completed rows, we hope to have some joined rows/quilts so that you can see how the quilt is coming together. Remember you do not have to do complete rows, you can just do blocks and make runners/mats/bags in fact anything to use your blocks. Gail Lawther workshop is on Thursday 12 th . July and will be on Twilight silhouettes. You need to bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. Contact Pris if you have any last minute queries. New Time !!!
May 2018 Newsletter Meeting Thursday 17th.May 2018 Last month we decided by a large majority to adjust our meeting times. Starting this month our hours for members will be 11 a.m. – 3.30p.m. – giving you extra time in the sun. Please do not arrive before 11 as the committee have to set up before you arrive. We have some volunteers to join the show committee, so we will be holding a show next year. Show date – Thursday 16th. May 2019 Make a note in your diaries and on your calendars! Thank you very much to those members who have volunteered for the show committee, we would like some more volunteers – many hands make light work. Please think about it, it is only for 6 months and our show is very worthwhile. We will have a preliminary meeting this month just to introduce members and ask for ideas for all aspects of the show – tombola, raffle, café, layout etc. Don’t worry if you can’t make this meeting – there will be more! If you won’t be here for the show, but would be willing to help in the preparation come along and see how you can help. Row Quilt This month will be a ‘catch up’ month and in June we will give you some ideas as to what to do next – if you want to add sashing. Bring along any completed rows, we hope to have some joined rows so that you can see how the quilt is coming together. We have Bondaweb for sale at the meeting (£1 for 12”) and freezer paper– see a member of the committee. Thank you to everyone for filling in their Data Protection forms. Gail Lawther workshop on Thursday 12th. July will be on Twilight silhouettes. The cost of the workshop will be £25, payable this month.
