August 2013 Newsletter Meeting Thursday 15thAugust It has been hot, hot, hot but that hasn't deterred Loddon Quilters! We were pleased to see so many members at our meeting in July. Now the weather seems have settled to our more usual summer and we hope to have another good meeting this month. Last month Sally demonstrated the origami block and many members had a go. We soon learnt that accuracy in the folding was the key to success and then we were away! If you have managed to make anything with your blocks do bring them along to Show and Tell. As always we had some lovely work to admire at Show and Tell. Jane had a new style rotary cutter and ruler which could be of particular interest to anyone having difficulty holding the usual type of cutter (e.g.Olfa). This cutter is made by Trucut, see Jane if you want to know more. Do share with us any new products you find useful – or not!! Our plans for a library got off to a good start last month. Many members brought in books for us to look at as suggestions for the group to buy and put in the library. We voted for our 2 favourites and Jan has the voting papers. This month you are each invited to bring 2 more books to put on the table and it will work the same way, everyone can have 2 votes. We hope to be organised for borrowing in October. More details next month. As we announced last month we are going to have to raise our subscriptions next year to £18, payable in September - still very good value we hope you’ll agree. We shall be inviting a few of the people from the top of our waiting list to visit us this month so that they can decide whether we are what they want when a place becomes available. We are sure you will make them welcome and it won't be too long before we can accommodate those who are waiting to join us. It is helpful if you can remember to wear your name badges, especially this month with visitors. Janice wears her badge on a necklace which saves pin holes in your clothes, a good idea. If you haven't got a badge please see us as we have some spares. Let's have a bumper Show and Tell to showcase Loddon Quilters. The Old Textile Centre houses the National Needlework Archive, holding exhibitions and workshops. It has a gift shop, tea room and free parking, everything for an interesting visit. There is a small entry fee. The address is Main St. Greenham Business Park, Newbury. RG19 6HW. Check out the website - www.nationalneedleworkarchive.org.uk We are all delighted to hear that Pris is making a good recovery and hope to see her with us again before too long.
