February 2016 Newsletter    Meeting Thursday 18th. February

Sunflower quilt

The quilt is finished and looks great. This month Helena Maskell, from St. Michael’s hospice, will be coming to collect it. We hope she will be as pleased as we are and that it will help to raise money for the hospice. Thank you to everyone who joined in this project, especially Chris.

New Year projects

In January Pris demonstrated the uses of sheers, organza and chiffon to create soft and creative shadow appliqué. It was a delightful way to do appliqué. Many of you took away fabric to ‘have a go’, please bring your efforts to Show and tell, however small or ‘in progress’.

Many members signed up for machine quilting. We will be asking if any others are interested during this month’s meeting. We shall be arranging small groups for demonstrations starting in April.

This month Jenny H will be demonstrating disappearing pinwheels. She gave us a taste at Show and Tell last month and it looks fun. If you want to have a go you need 2 x 6” squares in a light fabric and 2 x 6” squares in a contrasting fabric. We have a pile of 6” cream squares for members to use and the scrappy box will be there for contrasting squares so everyone can have a go. If you want to make up a block and then donate it we will make up the blocks into another Linus quilt.

If you want to get ahead and make a pinwheel block, using your own fabric, you can bring it to the meeting for the next step.

We have another fabric and quilting ‘bits’ sale this month, so don’t forget your purse. All proceeds will go to Sue Ryder.
